How to clean and store sex toys
Clean every toy before the first use and after each use with warm water and a mild, unscented soap, or a dedicated toy cleaner, then let it dry completely before storing it in a pouch away from other toys. Silicone and ABS plastic are non-porous and clean easily; porous materials cannot be fully cleaned.
What should I clean a toy with?
Warm water and a small amount of mild, unscented soap, rinsed well, or a toy cleaner such as pjur Toy Clean, which is made for silicone and needs no rinsing. Avoid alcohol, bleach, dish soap and anything scented, which can leave residue or damage the surface.
Can I put a vibrator in water?
Only if the product says waterproof. Splash-proof toys can be wiped and rinsed at the charging end with care but not submerged. Keep water away from the charging port on any toy, and let the port dry fully before charging.
Why store toys apart?
Some materials react with each other over time, and silicone in particular can become tacky if stored touching other silicone or certain plastics. A cloth pouch per toy, in a cool dry drawer away from sunlight, keeps them in good condition.
How do I look after a rechargeable toy?
Charge it fully before the first use, do not leave it on the charger for days, and give it a top-up charge every couple of months if unused. Most modern toys have a travel lock: hold the power button for a few seconds so it cannot switch on in a bag.
When should a toy be replaced?
When the surface is sticky, cracked, discoloured or has a smell that cleaning does not remove, or when a seal around a button or port has failed. A damaged surface can hold bacteria. Silicone toys that are looked after last for years.
